Alteriors has been a staple in Old Ottawa South since moving to Bank Street from Westoboro in 2013. Last year, this modern furniture store moved across the street and opened a sister store in the original showroom that focuses on one of its most iverse lines: Ligne Roset

Owners Jacob Visutskie and Monika Durczak, who bought the store in 2009, describe both Alteriors and Ligne Roset as "obtainable luxury brands," with most of the lines exclusive to the Ottawa area, which means they are unique and original.

"We try to bring visitors a unique experience," says Jake. "We love design and love to chat about design challenges and how we can help solve them with our products."

Greeting you as you enter Ligne Roset is the phrase written on the wall: Staying home is the new going out to a fancy place. With that in mind, Alteriors also offers a complimentary in-home service, where they visit clients at home and prepare three-dimensional drawings to help them create the best solutions.

"We tend to guide clients, not change them," Jake explains. "We encourage clients to buy what they like and avoid trends, your home is YOUR space, and it should represent you. Through conversation we really want to get to know the client and how they use the space so we can really select the best items."

Here are the pieces Jake and Monika say are the most popular this year, but they aren't necessarily trendy; they have staying power.

Morgan Sofa by Bensen: An amazingly comfortable sofa, soft but supportive, and high-backed so you can really rest your shoulders, allowing you to really unwind.

Thin-K by Kristalia: Very simple but elegant dining table, extendable, which is amazing for the condo market.

Adam Chair by Speke Klien: Wood is always good. This is a contemporary design that is light and airy without forfeiting comfort and it's made in Durham, Ontario.

Webber Sideboard by Cattelan Italia: The craftsmanship sets this apart. People are responding to it and the detail, which avoids over-the-top filigree.

Togo by Ligne Roset: This sofa is consistently among Ligne Roset's top sellers. It features an ergonomic design with multiple density foam construction and quilted covers.

Alteriors is located at 1158 Bank Street at Glen Avenue and Ligne Roset is across the street at 1165 Bank.
